CASE STUDY | how No Limit helped a brand with 30 units reach 32,000 fans without spending a dime on Facebook advertising
Toppers Pizza is an irreverent 30-unit pizza chain based out of Wisconsin that was looking for ways to better interact with the college demographic, a segment that their concept already owned.
Business Challenge:
Toppers Pizza is known for one thing, their irreverence. Once a customer experiences Toppers Pizza, they are hooked and will become fans for life. Toppers outstanding marketing campaigns have made them the #1 spot on college campuses, but they were looking to grow their social networks and extend the customer experience beyond bar time.
Strategy:
No Limit launched a contest entitled, Spank Our Pizza. This contest revolved around fans on the Toppers Facebook submitting their own menu creations. Toppers received hundreds of entries that were narrowed down to the top 64. Finalists were arranged in a “March Madness” style bracket and fans would vote on each matchup, eventually crowning a winner. The winner’s creation was then launched for a limited time on the Toppers menu systemwide.
Results:
Spank Your Pizza was successful largely due to the viral growth prompted by all 64 finalists, who reached out to their Facebook networks for help. By having each individual vote on their favorite pizzas, we were able to reach not only individual voters, but also their entire networks. When someone “liked” or commented on an entry, that user-action showed up to everyone else in their network. Overall, the Toppers fan page grew by 8,960 fans, a 62.6% increase since the contest began. During the contest, there were 18,592 total votes.
