TwitInterviews – New Age Journalism

Whenever there is a great invention (Twitter), it is quickly followed by great piggybacked ideas (TwitInterviews). This morning while shuffling through the Help a Reporter Out, I stumbled upon Kim Beasley’s posting – requesting to interview executives not via phone, or email, but through the powers of Twitter. While TwitInterviews is a start-up, it surely seems like a great idea for progressing the art of the interview into Twitterland.

TwitInterview is the brainchild of Kim Beasley to use Twitter as a way to interview industry experts and business owners so that they can share their knowledge. Kim’s whole goal is to allow the interviewees the opportunity to impart knowledge to Tweeters that will help them grow their business or enhance their online presence.

Over the course of the next several years, we are going to see many variations of Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, Blogger, etc. This is a given. Great ideas breed greater uses of that great idea. The media is already adapting toward virtual existence (franchisors, franchisees, current and former journalists might be interested in http://www.hometowntimes.com/). TwitInterviews is a great first step toward the future of communication.

“twinternship” Good Idea; Be Careful with Execution

Pizza Hut has an interesting internship posting circulating, the hiring of an intern to be their “twintern”. Having an intern run your Facebook, Twitter, etc. sites is a cool idea, but Pizza Hut should beware, it does take a high level skill set to understand this progressive type of communications.

The good thing, though, is that they will work under the PR team and will work with the communications team on extending the brand into Social Media. What happens when the intern leaves? The worst thing a brand can do is build a site, interact with consumers in their personal space, and then turn their back. Social Media and Networking is extremely valuable to brands, but only when the brands are controlling the interactions.

Nonetheless, a cool idea, take a look at the posting:

Function: Marketing

Brand: Pizza Hut Relocation

Expenses Covered: No

Description: The Pizza Hut internship ‘twinternship’ is a 10-12 week session during the summer months at the company’s headquarters in Dallas. The intern will act as a fully integrated member of the PR team and will focus on new and emerging social media, such as Twitter, Facebook and others. This is a full-time paid internship, and Pizza Hut will work with you and your school to support academic credit, if applicable.
The summer twinternship at Pizza Hut allows for many hands-on opportunities including:
· Collect and share insights and experiences while working for Pizza Hut through social and interactive media: Blogs, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, New and emerging media
· Twintern will be given unprecedented access to marketing meetings, brainstorm sessions, ad shoots and special events
· Monitor social media for pop culture news, off-the-wall stories or anything else quirky and fun that he or she thinks would be of interest to loyal Pizza Hut fans.
· Chronicle experience through video; edit and post to selected media
· Conduct media outreach for PR programs
· Assist with execution of national PR programs
